CTO, IT Resource Management Council
As the CTO, Greg leads strategic planning efforts for use of technology, manages central services and infrastructure, and leads support for the Information Technology Resource Management Council (ITRMC), which has authority for strategic IT research, development and implementation on an enterprise-wide basis for the State of Idaho.
Greg was appointed to the role of CTO in June 2008. Prior to taking his first position in state government in July 2004, he served in the US Air Force where he filled a number of leadership roles related to technology and communications. He was part of a select team that traveled with the Secretary of Defense and the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The Office of the Chief Information Officer for Idaho state government was created in June 2007 by merging the Division of Information Technology and Communications Services with the Information Technology Resource Management Council staff. This merger brings enterprise policy, strategic planning, and operational execution into a single organization. The Office of the CIO delivers central services to state government agencies, as well as providing complete technology support for smaller executive agencies, boards, and commissions.
Under the authority of the Chief Information Officer, who also serves as the Director, Department of Administration, technology related strategic planning, policy development and day to day information technology operations are administered by the Chief Technology Officer. The Office of the CIO is currently pursuing a number of initiatives to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of state government. These initiatives include centralized procurement efforts for desktops and laptop computers and endpoint security software suites; an email consolidation project; developing statewide broadband telecommunications; and a major review of governance structure and processes for information technology.
